Yesterday there was a presentation of a new generation of “people’s” smartphones Samsung A-series: Galaxy A33 , Galaxy A53 and Galaxy A73 . At the end of the event, the manufacturer announced its intention to extend software support for new products to the level of its flagships: four years of Android updates and five years of security patches. This is an unattainable bar even for many flagship models of Android competitors, but this decision of the Koreans has good reasons.
According to a report from Counterpoint Research, the Galaxy A family accounts for the lion’s share of all Samsung sales. So, in 2021, this figure was 58% – almost two out of three smartphones sold by Samsung are Galaxy A models.
The second chart illustrates the situation for the fourth quarter of 2021 in Europe, where the A-series already accounts for 59%, and the S-series only 24%. At the same time, the top ten most popular devices in Europe under $500 are as follows: the Galaxy A12 leads by a huge margin (included, by the way, in the top 10 most popular smartphones in 2021 ), and the third and fourth lines are occupied by the Galaxy A32 5G and A51. Therefore, it is not surprising that Samsung is so generous in relation to the line, which occupies 6 out of 10 positions in the top of this market segment.
