With an unexpected initiative, the deputies of the European Union came forward, voting for the return of removable batteries to smartphones – all in order to extend the life of smartphones and reduce waste. The relevant law can be adopted before the end of the year, but its implementation will take from 12 to 24 months, subject to the consent of all manufacturers and heads of state.
The law also provides for the sale of batteries within 10 years after the release of the devices, so, in fact, one phone can be used throughout this time – if there were batteries, but other parts would not break. Here it is, European practicality.
But smartphone manufacturers are unlikely to agree to this. Who will then buy new models every year?
