A month ago, we got acquainted with the report on global smartphone shipments in 2021, which became a record in the history of the industry. Now it’s time to talk about companies skimming the cream off the market. The list includes five brands that together collect 85% of the revenue from the smartphone business, according to a Counterpoint Research report. Hardly anyone will be surprised to learn that the lion’s share of the money goes to Apple: $196 billion or 44% of the market with an annual increase of +35% (a year earlier the figure was $146 billion or 38% of the market). And all this despite the second position in terms of the number of sales – right after Samsung. By the way, it also has an increase to 72 billion (+11%) with a total share of 16%.
In third place is OPPO (including OnePlus), which increased revenue by 47% year on year, reaching the bar of $ 37 billion. Xiaomi breathes in its back, showing an increase of 49% from $ 36 billion in a year. It is noted that the main driver of its growth was the growth in the supply of medium and premium classes, and the Indian market made the largest contribution. Vivo rounds out the top five with $34 billion and close annual growth (+43%). During the year, the company managed to increase the average selling price of smartphones by 19%, which in monetary terms is $259.
It also follows from the report that in 2021, the global market revenue set a new record, exceeding $448 billion and showing an increase of 7%. At the same time, there is a global increase in demand for mid-range and premium devices, and the average selling price of smartphones for the year increased by 12% and reached $322.
