These washing machines with a drying function are a great thing: they save not only space in the apartment, but also time and effort that would otherwise be spent on hanging. And the interior does not spoil the laundry drying in all corners.
One of the representatives of this class, Beko WDW8564HT, is additionally distinguished by the fact that it works very quietly. This is a great option for a studio or setting up a machine in the kitchen. We will test it and find out what it can and what it does not provide. Spoiler: with it you can invite a guest to the house, even if he fell into the mud – spend the night while the clothes dry, he will not stay and will not leave in your jeans.

Equipment
The washing machine is supplied in a technological package made of foam plastic elements protected by a polyethylene film. The model index and other service information are placed on a self-adhesive label on the front side.
The package includes a simple inlet hose, a drain hose hanger, four plugs that are inserted in place of shipping bolts, and a documentation package (user manual, online registration instructions and an energy efficiency sticker).
At first sight
The body of the car is traditionally white. The main feature of its design is the drum hatch: the frame and matte dark plastic of the outer cover form a black circle. When the door is closed, the contents of the drum are practically invisible – you have to find out what is happening inside by the indicators on the display.
Like most washing machines, the Beko WDW8564HT hatch opens almost 180° to the left. There is no way to move it to the right.
The cover is two-layer: as we have already seen, the outer part is made of translucent dark plastic, while the inner part is made of transparent glass. Hinges of the hatch and elements of the latch blocking it are metal.
The surface of the drum is covered with original embossed stamping: the pattern resembles stylized hearts with holes between them. Perforation is also available on the end of the container.
The plastic beaters also have an interesting shape, which makes it easier to mix the laundry during washing: instead of the traditional slightly curved design, we see symmetrically arranged prismatic elements. The perforation of the strikers is oriented in both directions: during operation, the drum can rotate in both directions.
The detergent tray, located in the upper left corner of the front panel, is arranged in the usual way: the left compartment is for the main wash, the right one is for the preliminary wash, and the conditioner is poured into the central container. The main wash container has a rotating flap for liquid detergents.
In the lower right corner of the case there is a hatch under which the filter plug is hidden. This door is securely fixed with a plastic latch and opens without difficulty. A plastic casing is placed under the cork, it does not allow water, which inevitably pours out when the cork is unscrewed, to enter the machine. There are no devices for collecting liquid here.
The side walls are decorated with a stamping in the form of a “snake”, which increases the rigidity of the walls. At the top of the rear panel there is a socket for connecting the inlet hose with a removable plastic filter: it prevents contaminants in tap water from getting inside the machine. Beko WDW8564HT is connected to cold water supply only.
The washing machine comes pre-installed with a traditional design and standard diameter drain hose. The inlet hose is also simple – it does not have an AquaStop/AquaProtect valve. If you want to additionally insure against leaks, the user will have to purchase the appropriate accessory.
During transportation, the drum is held by special bolts, which must be removed before operation. Our copy has five holes for them, but only four are used.

According to the established tradition, we perform an incomplete disassembly of the washing machine and see how it works.
Instruction
The washing machine user manual is an A5 brochure printed on thin yellowish paper with acceptable printing quality: numerous figures, diagrams and tables are easy to read, although some of the images could be made larger.
The document is in Russian. Formally, it is intended for only one washer, but there are several discrepancies in the description of functions and additional options – they can be explained by the fact that the text was nevertheless compiled for several models.
However, in general, this document quite fully and meticulously covers all aspects of the operation of the device: from installation to the choice of detergent and laundry treatment mode. Details of operation, work with remote control are described in detail, a complete list of programs is given.
A significant part of the document is devoted to safety when working with a washer-dryer. The faults listed in the last part of the document even include fading colored laundry!
The operation of the machine is quite simple and does not require frequent reference to the instructions.
Control
The choice of washing and drying programs is carried out by a round black selector in the middle of the front panel. To the right of it is a dark plastic display with blue LED backlighting. You can select additional washing options with the sensors at the bottom of the screen. To the right of it is another button that starts and, if necessary, pauses the program.
On the right side of the “dial” of the selector are the usual, most frequently used programs for washing cotton, synthetics and wool. On the left are non-standard scenarios that distinguish this model from many others.
The HygieneTherapy program provides, as stated in the manual, hygienic air cleaning by maintaining a relatively high temperature of the laundry for a certain period of time. It is recommended for quick hygienic cleaning with warm air of dry clothes made of cotton or synthetic fabrics.
The Wash&Wear scenario is designed for cases where you need to quickly wash and dry a small amount, up to half a kilogram, of clothes made of quick-drying fabrics (shirts, T-shirts). It is perfect for those cases when you urgently need to tidy up a set of clothes that will need to be clean in an hour.
A comprehensive washing and drying program for children’s clothes is recommended for small (up to 2 kg) quantities of laundry and includes anti-allergic and hygienic treatment.
A little lower, on the left side of the selector, there are wash and dry modes for mixed, cotton and synthetic clothes. This model does not have a drying scenario for woolen products.
On the right are two programs for washing cotton (normal and economical), synthetics and wool. Below them are a quick wash mode for a small amount of clothes in 14 minutes and a special program for men’s shirts.
Even lower is the position for controlling the washing machine using a mobile application (we will consider this possibility a little later).
In the table below we list the default values for each of the programs and the possible range of manual settings.

At the bottom of the display are buttons that control additional washing and drying options.
- The water temperature during washing is set by the corresponding button. Available values are 90, 60, 40, 30 and 20 °C. Water heating can be completely turned off.
- The spin speed is selected from 1400, 1200, 800 and 600 rpm. An option to turn off the spin is also available.
- The next button turns on the soak / prewash mode.
- The ” Quick wash ” button reduces the execution time of the standard scenario by 50%. This option is not available for special (already quite short) modes.
- The drying mode , selected by the next button, can be set both for the residual moisture content of the laundry (Iron Dry, Cupboard Dry and Extra Dry) and for the duration of the program (30, 90 and 150 minutes).
- The “End” button allows you to set the desired end time for the scenario – this is how Beko’s delayed start function is implemented.
- Finally, the last sensor enables smartphone control mode, which we’ll take a closer look at.
Smartphone control
For the washing machine, the manufacturer offers the HomeWhis application developed by Arcelik A.Ş. (average rating at the time of writing the review 2.0, the number of reviews – 3378).
As the description suggests, it allows you to manage a wide range of household appliances from different manufacturers, combining them into a single ecosystem (we tried to count all the “single ecosystems” that we have encountered over the past few years, but lost count in the third ten).
After installing the application, you need to create a new account by entering an email address (verification required) and a mobile phone number (not verified). After confirming the mailing address, you can create a new “Home”, that is, a group of household appliances.
The localization of the application leaves much to be desired: traces of machine translation are noticeable in the translation of the interface. However, we quickly found the category of interest to us in the “wipe devices” section. Having selected the “Washing machine” subsection, entered the serial number of the device (the sticker with the number is located under the drum door) and received instructions for synchronizing the device.
The procedure for connecting the machine is simple and does not take much time: just read the step-by-step instructions provided by the application and follow them carefully.
Unlike the vast majority of modern “smart” washing machines, Beko WDW8564HT is controlled not via Wi-Fi, but via Bluetooth. The third version of the protocol that the model uses is quite old, but still supported. To turn on the washing machine in smartphone control mode, the selector should be moved to the “Downloaded program” position and press the Bluetooth enable button (the rightmost sensor on the control panel).
On the first page of the application, the user sees the status of the washing machine, the Favorites menu (you can add the most frequently used programs to it along with additional options), the full list of programs (it is almost no different from those selected using the selector on the front panel), and also icon of the “Wizard” function: it can be used to select the most suitable program if the user doubts the correctness of his own decision.
The list of additional washing options for all scenarios offered by the program is also no different from those built into the machine.
Here, as well as on the display, the desired spin speed, washing temperature, drying and rinsing settings and other additional functions are selected. Having configured the script for your task, you can run it from the application, watch the execution and, if the result suits you, add it with all the settings to the “Favorites”.
The washing program, in theory, can only be started after closing the tank door. But despite the fact that the application monitors its state, the machine that received the command tries to execute it: it clicks idle with the lid lock until it is closed or the command is canceled.
The program can also be selected with the help of a wizard that asks four questions about the task assigned to the washer and suggests one or more of the most suitable scenarios. The further choice is up to the user.
In the settings of the washing machine, you can set the volume of beeps, manage notifications and get information about the serial number of the device, software version and other technical details.
The most interesting option of the mobile application seemed to us the ability to assign to the position of the selector called “Loaded program” one of the washing scenarios available only from the application.
By default, the program for mixed washing is set there, but it can be changed to modes for outerwear, dark clothes or jeans, underwear or featherbeds. We tend to consider the latter as blankets, but machine translation still allows such blunders.
The ability to customize washing scenarios controlled by a hardware selector is a very interesting option. It is a pity that you have to choose a mode for the only free slot from such a short list.
Exploitation
Connecting the washing machine to the water supply and sewerage did not cause us any difficulties: the connections here are standard. If you remember to unscrew the shipping bolts holding the drum before starting work, there should be no problems.
We strongly advise you not to neglect the alignment of the machine. To do this, you need to adjust the height of the legs. It is worth taking the building level to help. This will prevent vibration and damage it can cause.
Correctly exposed machine on subjective sensations works very silently. Behind a closed door at night, her noise does not disturb even a person with a very sensitive sleep. This model is perfectly balanced and – again, with proper alignment – stands firmly and securely on the surface.
The last step to prepare your machine for washing is to run the Drum Clean program recommended by the manufacturer. This mode should work with an empty machine.
Just in case, we immediately inform you that the duration of work that appears on the display when you select a program is indicated for medium or high load.
Of the interesting programs, it is worth noting the refreshment in the HygieneTherapy mode. For almost an hour (48 minutes), dry laundry is treated with hot air. This may be useful for clothes in which contact with the patient, or for airing bed linen stale in the closet (for example, in the country).
If there is only one set of clothes at hand that needs to be washed and then put on (for example, a guest came to you wet or fallen into a puddle), you should use the Wash&Wear script. Up to half a kilogram of clothes can be washed, dried and put on immediately after an hour.
In the arsenal of this model there is a quick, in just 14 minutes, washing, and a number of programs and options aimed at saving water, electricity and time. But all these reductions do not affect, for example, the quality of the rinse – an additional one is usually not required.
The machine, of course, blocks the door for the duration of the program, but immediately after the end of the door opens freely. That is, the inscription “End” appears on the display literally a second after the end of the movement of the drum and the click of the lock.
Care
The manufacturer recommends taking out the detergent container every 4-5 cycles and washing it in warm water with a soft brush. If water stagnates in one of the compartments, this is an indicator that cleaning can no longer be postponed.
After each wash, it is necessary to check the drum door, clean the seal from foreign objects if they got there, and clean the holes in the lid with a toothpick if necessary. Every two months it is worth washing the door from possible sediment with anti-scale products. In this model, you can use the drum cleaning mode, which is available from the mobile application and can be added to the “downloaded program” menu.
The body can only be washed with water and a small amount of detergent; do not use abrasives, hard washcloths or solvents. After washing, dry the machine with a soft cloth.
It is recommended to clean the filter at least once every three months. To remove it, you need to substitute a convenient container under it and prepare a rag. Then press the cover on the left (there is a risk) and pull it towards you. Carefully unscrew the filter, clean it and the inner space near the pump impeller and return the entire structure to its original position.
Our measurements
For several reviews in a row, we have made it a rule to evaluate the drum capacity of washing machines. Of course, in many cases you cannot call it a regular cylinder, but for approximate calculations it is enough to represent it as such.
For Beko WDW8564HT, the tank is a cylinder with a radius of 25 cm and a depth of 30 cm. Thus, its volume is calculated at 58875 cm³, that is, approximately 58.9 liters.
Another common practice for us was to monitor the work of the main program with a stopwatch in hand (the standard program “Cotton” with default settings). This time we added an extra rinse to the standard program. Here’s what we got.

Energy and water consumption
Unfortunately, these parameters are usually not indicated in the instructions or are not detailed and not accurate, so we offer you the measurement results for those programs that we used in the testing process.

Spin
Another standard test is the evaluation of the actual spinning efficiency, which we measure in grams of water per gram of cotton using the formula: ( wring weight – dry weight ) / dry weight . As a reference linen, 10 white terry towels from Ikea with a total weight of about 2 kg were used.

Noise
We measured the noise level in a room where washing machines are often placed – a bathroom. The sound level meter was located at a level of 1 m from the floor and at a distance of 1 m from the device, in the center of the front panel.

The maximum power consumed by the machine, recorded during practical tests, was 1956 watts. In standby mode, the washing machine consumes about 1 W, and in the off state – 0.3 W.
practice tests
To evaluate the main function of the washing machine, we took the white towels already featured in the tests above and creatively stained them with our favorite dirt – common and difficult to wash organic dirt. And then they put the wash on standard modes and watched what would come of it.
Cotton, 40 °C dry
We stained a set of five towels with red wine, soy sauce, ketchup, blood and cocoa (each towel has its own kind of dirt). Then dried at room temperature for a day and loaded with a test wash.
We used a white laundry gel from one of the well-known manufacturers both in Russia and in the rest of the world. The dosage was calculated according to the instructions on the package.
We used the standard program “Cotton” with a temperature of 40 °C. The result is in the photos below.
On the standard cotton program at 40°C, ketchup, soy sauce and cocoa stains were completely removed, but blood and wine stains remained slightly visible.
Result: excellent.
Cotton program with maximum temperature and pre-soak
To see if it was possible to wash it better, we took the same set of towels, applied the same stains, and stood the same day … The only difference is that the machine was running on the “Cotton” program with a maximum (90 ° C) temperature and pre-soak.
The result was even better. The red wine stains have become much paler, and traces of blood can be seen only by looking closely.
As usual, we put the towels that were not washed the first time into the washer again, using bleach: there were no traces of dirt left.
Result: excellent.
wool washing
You should definitely appreciate how carefully our machine handles products made of delicate fabrics. To do this, we washed a woolen blanket weighing just under a kilogram (989 g) on the appropriate program with default settings (40 ° C, spin 1200 rpm) and with a special liquid detergent for wool.
Beko WDW8564HT washed the blanket gently but thoroughly: the material did not fall off or shrink during the washing process, the existing dirt disappeared.
Unfortunately, the wool washing program for this model does not allow you to turn on drying as an additional option, and it does not have a separate scenario for drying delicate fabrics – you will have to dry such products not in the machine.
Result: excellent.
Cotton drying
In order to evaluate how well the machine dries cotton, we put a double bedding set (duvet cover, fitted sheet and two pillowcases with a total weight of 1897) in it and turned on the “5 kg, wash + dry” mode.
This scenario is great for small items. But incidents happen with large things: when the cycle ended, we found out that even at the washing stage, a large duvet cover, as is customary with them, swallowed up the sheet and pillowcases, rolling them inside itself into a hard-to-dry lump. The laundry taken out of the machine was perfectly washed, but clearly damp: the weight of the set was 2496 g, which corresponds to 0.32 g of water per gram of laundry.
Putting the laundry back into the drum, this time we started the cotton drying mode at the maximum and were satisfied with the result: the laundry came out not overdried, without creases and damage, and the final weight was 1904 g – only 7 grams of water remained in the laundry.
The combined washing and drying mode turned out to be not very effective in our case: it is better to dry a large amount of laundry in a separate cycle, disassembling the drum manually.
Result: good.
Wash&Wear: quick wash and dry
As conceived by the manufacturers, the Wash & Wear program is designed to quickly wash and dry a small amount of lightly soiled clothes: remove, wash, dry and put on again after forty minutes. To test how our washing machine handles this task in practice, we put a couple of T-shirts, two changes of men’s underwear and thin sweatpants into the drum.
The Wash&Wear mode consists of a short five-minute wash, a ten-minute rinse and a 25-minute dry. We feared that such a short drying would not be enough for cotton fabrics, but in vain: T-shirts and underwear removed from the machine turned out to be only slightly damp to the touch. Clothes in this condition in the warm season can be put on immediately, but in winter, T-shirts and underwear had to rest at room temperature for half an hour.
Result: excellent.
findings
The Beko WDW8564HT washing machine proved to be very efficient, easy to operate and very quiet. Its developers did not seek to impress the consumer with dozens of different “unique” programs, focusing on the standard, most commonly used scenarios.
However, this model also has some highlights: among them we note the quite effective forty-minute Wash&Wear mode and the HygieneTherapy scenario, designed to decontaminate clothes with warm air, a very timely development during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The machine washes and dries very well. We believe that its only drawback is the absence of a drying mode for woolen and delicate fabrics: they will have to be dried in the air.
