Everything about this jumper comes together to make it a clever wardrobe investment. It’s the right length (on anyone 5ft 6in or under) to wear over dresses (I’ve tried wearing baggy long jumpers over dresses and I can’t do it; I’m too small). It’s great with skirts, especially A-lines.
It also looks chic with high-waisted trousers, which frankly are the only trousers I’m wearing from here on in, no matter what happens at the high table of fashion – not least because they make legs look longer and accentuate waists, but also because there’s a jaunty ’70s smartness about the combination of high-waisted tailored trousers and a neat, boxy jumper.
The contemporary combination of colours in the stripes is also cheering without being garish, and makes the jumper easy to match, or mismatch, with plain separates. The cream band around the neckline is smart too, especially if your neck’s on the short side. This is a very well thought-out jumper.
It’s made from 100 per cent sustainably sourced cotton, an Albaray speciality, and is softer than you might expect. As for the crochet effect – it’s Granny in a good way, ie more Gucci than Trad, but at a decidedly non-Gucci price.
