Prince Harry opens up about his biggest childhood trauma

Prince Harry has repeatedly spoken about how traumatized he was by the death of his mother Princess Diana in 1997.

The Duke of Sussex recently spoke out on the topic of mental health on The Masters of Scale podcast and, in a conversation with LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, spoke once again about his main childhood trauma.

“Ninety-nine percent of the people on planet earth suffer from some form of loss, injury or grief. It doesn’t matter how old you are, but most of us have experienced a lot of this in our youth, so we forgot about it. But the body does not forget, the body holding,” Harry says.

His mother Diana tragically died in a car accident in Paris on August 31, 1997. Harry was 13 at the time, Diana was 36.

Last year, it was announced that Prince Harry would take on the role of chief employee of the coaching and mental health company. In the podcast, Prince talked about his work in the field and how the cultural difference in approach to therapy between California and the UK is huge.

“I was born and raised in California myself, and we used to tell jokes. ‘Hey, my therapist will talk to your therapist’ to connect. I know it’s a very Californian perspective,” Hoffman says in the conversation. And Prince Harry replies: “You are absolutely right about the cultural differences, they are huge. If you talk about it here in California, I will ask my therapist to call your therapist. While in the UK everyone says:“ Therapist? What therapist? Whose therapist? I don’t have a therapist. No, definitely not, I’ve never talked to a therapist,” Prince Harry says, People writes.

Last year, Harry spoke about his personal experience in therapy, sharing how Meghan inspired him to take the path of mental health. The prince spoke about this in the film , which they shot together with Oprah Winfrey. “I had a fear – when I first went to therapy – a fear of losing. I knew that if I didn’t go through therapy and get better, I would lose this woman with whom I could spend the rest of my life,” the prince said then. At the same time, Harry said that therapy helped him come back and deal with really uncomfortable situations and be able to process them so that he could heal.

During the conversation, Prince Harry recalled a story about how he once met a soldier suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) who was “physically shaking” and “couldn’t look me in the eye.” And then he was lucky enough to see him again six months later. The soldier just got back from a ski trip? and exercise almost completely healed him. This, according to the Duke of Sussex, is the power of sports. In 2014, Harry founded the Invincible Games, which he recently attended in The Hague. This year, the prince especially admired the Ukrainian military athletes.
