Against the backdrop of the news about the termination of PSN, the shutdown of Visa and Mastercard in Russia and the impossibility of buying games for the PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One/Series and Nintendo Switch in digital format, many console owners can only hope for the availability of disc versions and cartridges on the shelves. Well, most likely, the discs will indeed be on sale for some time, but the prices for them, as expected, will not be the most pleasant.
All major retail chains have raised prices for disc versions of games. This is primarily due to the ruble exchange rate, as well as the fact that retailers may no longer adhere to recommended retail prices, because game publishers have suspended work in Russia.
For example, cartridges for Nintendo will now be sold at a price of 6199 rubles instead of 3999 rubles. The price increase will affect both the official Nintendo World store and retail. Retailers such as Mvideo, Eldorado, DNS, 1C Interest, GamePark and GameBuy now sell the same games at prices ranging from 5599 rubles to 7499 rubles instead of the previously recommended 3999-4999 rubles.
An example of how prices have risen in Mvideo:
• Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin from 6199 rubles (previously from 4499 rubles);
• Ghostwire: Tokyo from 7499 rubles (instead of 3999 rubles);
• LEGO Star Wars: Skywalker. Saga from 5199 rubles (instead of 4299 rubles)
• Forspoken from 7499 rubles (previously – 4999 rubles).
Given that the supply of disc versions of games is also stopped at the moment, and international logistics are disrupted, it is not necessary to expect that the situation will change in the near future.
